AudioClip chaos gets expensive when a Unity project grows.

Small projects can survive with clips dragged directly into inspectors. Bigger prototypes, horror games, RPGs, sims, UI-heavy tools, and AI-assisted Unity workflows need a safer way to import, rename, replace, validate, and reuse SFX without hunting through scenes and prefabs.

A practical production workflow

Bring in sounds, curate them, assign stable IDs, validate references, and revise without breaking the project.

1

Import and organize

Import AudioClip folders from Project selection, drag/drop, source fields, or external folders. Preserve nested folders and generate folder-qualified keys when packs contain the same clip name.

2

Review and approve

Preview clips, track source/license provenance, mark review status, add replacement key notes, and export CSV or Markdown review sheets for audio and design signoff.

3

Assign stable IDs

Drag Approved SFX IDs into inspector fields, batch-assign no-code playback components, route sources to AudioMixerGroup buses, or call generated constants from scripts.

4

Validate before release

Scan scripts, assets, prefabs, loaded scenes, or all scene assets for dangling references, stale generated-ID output, duplicate source-file content, and non-approved review states.

5

Revise safely

Swap clips under stable keys, preview Safe Rename migrations, leave source-code TODOs, and warn before deleting entries that are still referenced.

First-release feature set

Free and Pro are focused on useful, everyday Unity production work: import, organize, assign, validate, and revise SFX with stable IDs. Free is capped at 25 active entries; Pro removes the entry limit and unlocks advanced release workflows.

Library

Searchable SFX database

Search, sort, category filters, clip preview, copy key, copy code, drag IDs, per-key Uses scanning, staged manual adds, and bulk categorization.

Import

Pack-drop control

Project-selection imports, external folder copies, deterministic in-place reimports, folder-qualified duplicate-name keys, source pack/path capture, and database-stored import summary export history.

Review

Audio lead metadata

Per-entry review status, replacement key, source/license fields, attribution, notes, bulk source/license tagging, bulk review-status updates, and CSV/Markdown review sheets.

Assignment

No-code playback

Components for start, trigger, collision, UI button click, random variants, ambience loops, and loop zones with optional AudioMixerGroup routing.

Validation

Release gates

Unknown keys, dangling SfxKey references, orphan clips, duplicate assignments, duplicate source-file content allowances, unreferenced keys, invalid replacement keys, and generated-ID freshness.

Automation

Reports and CI

Markdown/JSON report export, configurable scan roots, validation severity profiles, batchmode CI validation, and generated C# constants.

Not middleware. Not an audio editor. Not a clip pack.

A practical SFX librarian for Unity projects that need organization, stable IDs, validation, reports, and easy playback.

Use it when you want

  • A searchable database for existing Unity AudioClips.
  • Stable string IDs instead of fragile object references.
  • Beginner-friendly playback for common gameplay and UI sounds.
  • Generated constants that developers and AI coding tools can call reliably.
  • Release reports that catch missing clips, dangling keys, stale generated IDs, and review blockers.

Use bigger tools when you need

  • Adaptive music authoring.
  • Professional sound-designer middleware workflows.
  • Complex event graphs or parameter-driven audio systems.
  • Waveform editing, audio generation, or clip marketplace search.
  • Studio-scale audio pipelines with dedicated audio engineering staff.

Free and Pro are separate Asset Store listings.

Use Free to evaluate the workflow or support a small prototype. Use Pro when the sound library grows beyond 25 active entries or the project needs generated constants, usage scanning, release reports, and CI-friendly checks.

CGC Labs SFX Librarian Free

Free
  • Separate free Asset Store listing under CGC Labs.
  • Up to 25 active SFX entries per database.
  • Searchable SFX database with key, category, clip preview, copy, and drag workflows.

  • Good fit for evaluation, tutorials, prototypes, jams, and small projects.
Free is capped at 25 active entries. Projects that need more entries should use Pro.

CGC Labs SFX Librarian Pro

$9.99 intro / $19.99 list
  • Separate paid Pro Asset Store listing under CGC Labs.
  • Unlimited active SFX entries.
  • Generated C# constants and script-friendly stable IDs.

Unity handles purchase entitlement, pricing, and seats outside the package. SFX Librarian does not ask Asset Store customers for in-product license keys.

FAQ

Does this replace FMOD or Wwise?

No. CGC Labs SFX Librarian is for Unity Audio projects that need organization, stable IDs, validation, reports, and easy playback. It is intentionally lighter than professional adaptive-audio middleware.

Does it include audio clips?

No. It organizes, validates, previews, and references AudioClips you already own. The package includes a tiny synthetic demo sample for setup testing, but it is not an audio pack.

What Unity versions are targeted?

Package metadata targets Unity 2022.3 LTS and Unity 6 without a patch-pinned unityRelease. Unity 2022.3.62f2 and Unity 6 validation have passed for the release candidate; final submission still requires price signoff and manual UI QA.

What is the Free limit?

CGC Labs SFX Librarian Free supports up to 25 active SFX entries per database. The cap is meant for evaluation, learning, prototypes, jams, and small projects.

How do Free and Pro relate?

They are separate Unity Asset Store listings from the same CGC Labs publisher profile. Free is capped at 25 active entries; Pro is paid, unlimited, and includes generated constants, usage scanning, advanced reports, and CI validation.
